Carl Scandelius is a 12th-grade student from Eton College in the United Kingdom. He has a keen interest in philosophy, psychology, logic, and linguistics. Carl has represented the United Kingdom at the 30th International Philosophy Olympiad (IPO) and placed in the Top 7 in the UK at the National Finals of the Goethe Institute IDO (German Language Olympiad). Additionally, he has the distinction of being the first-ever two-time winner of the Ibn Battuta Prize.
At CCIR Academy, Carl conducted his research project on constraining conceptual relativism. In his paper, he researched on the assertion of standardisation on conceptual schemes. He also discussed constraining relativism to something which allows us to enjoy the benefits and appeals of both extremes: the mind-independent truth enjoyed by realists and avoidance of the self-refuting nature of full relativism.
In CCIR Academy’s Student Spotlights, Carl shares his experience with his mentor and how he has been able to develop his research project and deepen his knowledge in philosophy.
