Katerina Matta, a student at The Harker School in California, has earned recognition for her achievements.
She aspires to pursue a degree in journalism, currently working as a reporter at her school’s nationally-recognised, award-winning newspaper. Her interest in journalism is rooted in personal experiences witnessing the impact of state-sponsored news, particularly amid the current Russo-Ukraine war.
She holds awards and honours, including the Davidson Young Scholar, Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth High Honors, Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Silver Key, The Harker School Mission of the School Award, AMC 8 Distinguished Honor Roll, AMC 10 Achievement Roll, and Noetic Math Contest National Honor Roll.
Katerina’s research paper, titled “Real War Refugees: Examining the Racialization of Migration in the Context of the Ukraine Refugee Crisis Through Twitter Comments to Newspaper Articles Abstract,” has been accepted and published at the OXY (Occidental College): Critical Theory & Social Justice Undergraduate Research Journal. This peer-reviewed publication is dedicated to providing a transformative platform for undergraduate students to explore critical theory in their commitment to social justice.
