High School Student Researcher Selina on Redefining Rights & Responsibilities in the Media Governance in US

Selina (Shuyuan) Yang, a student at Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School in China, has always been passionate about social science. She has won several awards, including the Overall Team Bronze Award at the 2023 International Economics Olympiad – China (IEOC) and the Critical Thinking Overall Team Silver Award in the 2nd Round of the 2023 National Economics Challenge.

Selina also received recognition such as the Honourable Mention Award for the 2022 SI Suitability Development Project and the Regional Microeconomics Individual Distinction Award & Regional Overall Team Bronze Award in the 1st Round of the 2022 National Economics Challenge. Furthermore, she achieved the status of a Quarterfinalist in the Open Vision category of the National High School Debate League of China (NHSDLC).

In community service, Selina served as Team Leader for the SI Suitability Development Project, leading her team in researching and reporting on the Innovative Design of Urban Garden in Semi-Tropical Areas. She identified challenges, conducted fieldwork, and proposed solutions to address issues related to urban community gardens in Shanghai.

In the CCIR Academy, Selina conducted a research project titled “Reimagining Journalism: Redefining Rights and Responsibilities in the Evolving Landscape of Media Governance in the United States”. This project delves into the changing dynamics of media governance and its impact on journalism, exploring the roles of various stakeholders in shaping media regulations and practices.

Selina’s recent recognition in the CCIR Academy underscores her commitment to research and acknowledges the support she has received from her professor and the CCIR Academy.
