High School Student Researcher Vanessa on The Benefits and Detrimental Effects of Exercise and Dance on Physical, Mental, and Social Health

Vanessa Poon, a high school student at The Bishop Strachan School in Canada, has shown an exceptional commitment to both psychology and the arts.

In 2021, Vanessa participated in Brown University’s Pre-College Programs, where she took courses in psychology. The following year, in 2022, she participated in the Columbia University Summer Immersion Program.

Additionally, Vanessa’s dedication to classical ballet is noteworthy. She has not only performed with the Hong Kong Ballet but has also trained with some of the most prestigious ballet schools around the world. These include the Royal Ballet School, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, The International Ballet School, Marlupi Dance Academy, and Goh Ballet Academy.

As a participant in the CCIR Academy, Vanessa conducted a research project titled “The Benefits and Detrimental Effects of Exercise and Dance on Physical Health, Mental Health, and Social Health: A Review.” This research paper explores the positive effects of exercise and dance on physical, mental, and social well-being. It also considers potential detrimental effects or risks associated with these activities.

In a recent episode of CCIR Academy Student Spotlights, Vanessa shared valuable insights from her research journey and expressed gratitude for the support provided by her professor and the CCIR Academy throughout her research endeavours.
