In this insightful interview, we have Keeren Setokusumo, a talented high school student from Jakarta, Indonesia, with a passion for sociology and education. Conducting her research project at CCIR Academy, Keeren is delving into the Indonesian education system by analysing the discourse and ideologies presented in the social science textbooks. Currently, Keeren has been accepted to Princeton University for her undergraduate study.
Her research project, “From Nationalism to Globalization: Tracing the Changes in the Indonesian Education System Through Social Science Textbooks,” focuses on identifying the values and narratives reinforced by the government in the 2013 and 2018 Indonesian national social science textbooks for Year 9 students. Through her research, Keeren aims to showcase the areas that need rectification in future curriculum theorists, ensuring that harmful narratives are not perpetuated in future national curriculums.
