Youyou Shen, a student at Shenwai International School in China, has engaged in various projects showcasing her diverse skills and interests. She was shortlisted in the Psychology category in a highly prestigious and rigorous essay competition in the US, standing out among 945 submissions. Her Extended Essay at Shenwai International School also involves a 4000-word research paper applying the social information processing model to assess peer victimisation in children and its link to aggression. This research investigates how childhood peer victimisation may explain chronic aggressive behaviour.
Leading the non-profit Woodwork initiative, Youyou organised a class trip to collect reusable wood bricks, manufacturing 60 handcrafted toy cars for kindergarten students. She later presented the project to the school principal, securing funds for a laser-cutting machine for future woodwork. In the Environment Conservation Lesson, she designed and presented a series of lessons covering environmental issues, recycling systems, sustainable lifestyles, and leadership.
Previously, she participated in a Biomimicry project, proposing solutions to combat local plastic consumption and presenting her team’s product in an eco-friendly design campaign where they won second place, highlighting their impactful contribution.
In the CCIR Academy, Youyou conducted a research project titled “Assessment of Overt Peer Victimisation in Children: The Developmental Pathway to Aggression.” Her research paper explores the connection between overt peer victimisation and the emergence of aggression in children, shedding light on the developmental pathways of aggressive behaviours.
Youyou’s recent appearance on CCIR Academy Student Spotlights underscored her dedication to research, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from her professor and the CCIR Academy.
