Derin Ozkan is a student at Üsküdar American Academy in Turkey. As the general coordinator of CodeFest, Turkey’s first and largest competitive coding competition for high school students, Derin managed all aspects of the event, held at Üsküdar American Academy on 19 February 2024. This included coordinating sponsors, logistics, and event planning. Derin also led the technical committee, developing programming questions and test cases, reviewing solutions, and determining the winners.
In addition to CodeFest, Derin is the president of the school’s programming club, where they lead weekly sessions teaching C programming, fundamental computer science concepts, and competition strategies to younger students. They also help prepare students for TÜBİTAK competitions.
Derin’s research paper, The Impact of Campaign Expenditures on U.S. Presidential Elections, has been accepted by the Southwestern Social Science Association (SSSA). The study analyses election outcomes from 1980 to 2020, using logistic regression to examine campaign expenditures, incumbency, party affiliation, and economic factors.
Congratulations to Derin on this achievement!
