High School Student Researcher Giana on Local Translation in Neuronal Cells

Giana Thomas, a high school student at GEMS Wellington School in Qatar, is driven by her curiosity about the transformative potential of medicine. She has chosen to pursue medicine to understand how she can contribute to reshaping its impact on our lives.

Giana has actively explored her research interests in the field of developmental biology. She has dedicated her efforts to understanding the crucial role of stem cells in medicine and has written a research paper that delves into their significance. Furthermore, she is expanding her knowledge by taking a computer programming course and working towards obtaining GCSEs in Computer Science and ICT, with the aim of applying these skills to cell coding.

At CCIR Academy, Giana embarked on a research project titled “Local Translation in Neuronal Cells.” This project allowed her to investigate the intricate mechanisms behind information transmission within these specialised cells, providing insights into their complex functioning.

Giana openly shares her research journey and experiences in an episode of CCIR Academy Student Spotlights, providing valuable insights into her work and expressing her gratitude for the support she received from the CCIR Academy throughout her research endeavours.
