High School Student Researcher Kavya on Access to Healthcare for Single Mothers

Kavya Parikh, a student at Cherokee High School in New Jersey, has a strong commitment to public service. In the past, she has dedicated herself to serving the community and aiding those in need.

Before coming to CCIR, Kavya conducted research on “Defending Reproductive Privacy: Advocacy Responses after Dobbs,” delving into the advocacy landscape following significant legal cases under the supervision of a professor at Columbia University. She also explored “The Impact of LGBTQ+ Identity on the Journey to Leadership,” investigating how LGBTQ+ identity influences leadership attainment.

As a social entrepreneur, Kavya founded Tampon Express, an organisation dedicated to collecting and distributing personal hygiene supplies to low-income individuals. Through the Harvard International Relations Scholars Program, she engaged with global officials, culminating in her recognition with the Capstone Project Award for her outstanding presentation.

In the CCIR Academy, Kavya conducted a research project titled “Social and Cultural Determinants and their effect on Access to Healthcare for Single Mothers.” This research examines how social and cultural factors impact healthcare access for single mothers, addressing socioeconomic status, cultural norms, and institutional barriers. The study aims to provide insights into healthcare disparities and interventions to enhance healthcare equity for single mothers.

Kavya’s recent recognition in the CCIR Academy reflects her dedication to research, acknowledging the invaluable support from her professor and the CCIR Academy.
