High School Student Researcher Amalia on Overcoming Barriers for Women in Greek Shipping

Amalia Maria Piperaki is a student at Athens College in Greece. She has developed a strong interest in business, finance, and women’s empowerment. Through professional internships and student-led initiatives, she has explored the business world while advocating for greater opportunities for women.

Internships and Business Experience

Amalia has gained practical experience through internships in the investment and maritime industries. At Orasis Investment Fund, she conducted financial analysis research for a shipping company. This experience allowed her to explore financial research and understand aspects of the shipping industry.

In addition, Amalia interned at Load Line Marine SA, an international ship management company. There, she focused on operations, chartering, and finance. Through this opportunity, she gained further exposure to the business and operational aspects of maritime management.

Leadership and Women’s Empowerment

Beyond her professional experiences, Amalia is committed to promoting women’s empowerment. She founded her school’s first Women Empowerment Club to create opportunities for students to discuss issues affecting women.

The club organises guest speaker sessions, discussion panels, charity projects, and awareness campaigns. These activities focus on women’s rights in the Greek workplace. Furthermore, they encourage students to learn about workplace challenges and explore ways to support greater equality.

Through founding and leading this initiative, Amalia has developed a deeper interest in women’s empowerment within the shipping and business sectors. Her experiences have connected her professional interests with her commitment to addressing gender-related issues in the workplace.

Amalia’s journey reflects her interest in finance, maritime business, and social impact. Moreover, her internships and leadership activities demonstrate how professional experience can inspire meaningful initiatives. She continues to explore the connection between business development and opportunities for women.
