High School Student Researcher Amanda Chua’s Research on the Application of Stem Cells in Cancer Treatment was accepted at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2025)

Amanda Chua is a student at Nanyang Girls’ High School in Singapore. Her interest in genetics began during biology lessons, particularly when learning about molecular genetics and inheritance. What started as curiosity soon developed into a deeper fascination with how DNA and RNA function, and how genetic tools such as CRISPR and SCNT can be used to address mutations associated with disease.

To explore this further, Amanda completed several online courses, including a genome engineering course at Rice University, where she studied how CRISPR-Cas9 can be used to alter gene sequences. She also took courses in cancer biology and stem cells, learning about the role of gene mutations in tumour formation and the potential of induced pluripotent stem cells in therapy.

Amanda’s research paper, Application of Stem Cells in the Treatment of Cancer, has been accepted for presentation at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2025). Her research explores the potential applications of stem cells in cancer treatment and the role of advances in stem cell research in developing new approaches to healthcare.

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2025) offers a platform for students to present their research and engage with peers and academics from across disciplines, providing an opportunity to share ideas and develop their academic experience.
