Anita Bandhakavi is a student at Lowndes High School in the United States. From an early age, she has been driven by curiosity about how the world and the human body function. She developed a strong interest in biology through school projects, independent reading, and educational videos on genetics, cells, mutation, and evolution. She also spent time observing a migrant clinic, where she began learning Spanish to better understand patients and gained insight into the impact of healthcare within her community. These experiences strengthened her interest in medicine and research.
At the CCIR Academy, Anita’s research paper, Gene Expression Through Glucose and Galactose, has been accepted at the International Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB). Her research explores gene expression in response to glucose and galactose, contributing to the broader study of how molecular processes respond to different biological conditions.
ISMB is the flagship conference of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) and the largest global gathering in computational biology. Established in 1993, the conference has become a leading forum for advancing research at the intersection of computation and molecular biology, bringing together researchers from across the field.
