High School Student Researcher Avni Mahajan’s Research on a Low-Cost Robotic Gripper was accepted at the MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference (MIT URTC)

Avni Mahajan is a student at Apeejay School, Pitampura in India. She has been recognised as an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honour and received a national Science Merit Certificate. She completed a Robotics Advance Micro Degree at Avishkaar, where she designed and tested gear systems, drive mechanisms, cranes, and lifts, gaining practical experience in prototyping and problem-solving. Alongside this, she undertook training at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where she worked on drones and avionics projects, including building gliders, quadcopters, and remote-controlled planes, and integrating sensors with Arduino and ESP32. She has also explored electronics through projects with the National Science Centre, developing prototypes such as RFID systems, scientific toys, and models demonstrating key physics principles.

Avni’s research paper, Design and Analysis of a Low-Cost Gripper with Compliant, Tendon-Driven Continuum Fingers, has been accepted at the MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference (MIT URTC), an internationally recognised forum for undergraduate research run in collaboration with IEEE. Her work examines how the compliance of a robotic gripper affects its performance and evaluates its potential for applications that require minimal planning and perception.
