Selin Posacıoğlu is a student at Koç Özel Lisesi in Turkey. She has developed a strong interest in cognitive neuroscience through hands-on research experiences. At the Acıbadem Cognitive Neuroscience Camp, she studied the Stroop Test, with a particular focus on the emotional Stroop paradigm. She later observed fNIRS data at Acıbadem University, gaining exposure to non-invasive brain imaging techniques that measure blood oxygenation changes. Selin also worked on the affective go/no-go task, analysing MEG results in the right and left orbitofrontal gyrus to understand their roles in inhibition and emotional processing.
At the CCIR Academy, Selin’s research paper, Age-Dependent Alpha-Synuclein Accumulation in Parkinson’s Disease, has been accepted at the AD/PD™ Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease Conference. Her study examines how alpha-synuclein accumulation in Parkinson’s disease varies with age and contributes to disease progression. Using analysis of the PPMI dataset and existing literature, the paper explores links between cerebrospinal fluid alpha-synuclein levels, ageing, and Parkinson’s pathology, while also discussing protein homeostasis and emerging therapeutic approaches, including PROTAC-based strategies.
