Katherine Zhang is a student at Skyline High School in the United States. She is a member of DECA and has competed at area and state levels. She also serves as Director of Debate in the Junior State of America (JSA), where she trains and prepares novice and varsity debaters for competitions, including the Yale Invitational and the University of Michigan debate tournament.
At the CCIR Academy, Katherine’s research paper, To What Extent Does Viral Misinformation About Immigrants on Algorithm-Driven Platforms Affect Youth Beliefs?, has been accepted at the International Forum on Research Excellence (IFoRE), powered by Sigma Xi. Her study examines how exposure to misinformation on social media platforms influences young people’s understanding of immigration. Using survey data, the research finds that higher social media use is linked to lower accuracy in identifying false information, despite greater confidence in doing so.
