Jerry Li is a student at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute in Canada. He has been recognised in mathematics competitions organised by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo, earning distinction in the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge and qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.
At the CCIR Academy, Jerry’s research paper, Angular Momentum Non-Conservation during Ballistic Mass Transfer in Binary Star Systems, has been accepted and published by the American Astronomical Society (AAS). His study challenges the traditional assumption that angular momentum is conserved during mass transfer in binary star systems. Using a ballistic model, the research shows that transferred mass leads to a consistent loss of angular momentum, regardless of the mass ratio between the stars.
