Amaan Mohammed is a student at Dublin High School in the United States. He has earned recognition in several academic and community activities. For example, he won first place in the DUSD Public Service Announcement competition on fentanyl abuse. He also received the Gold Presidential Service Award. In addition, he ranked in the Top 10 at the HOSA State Leadership Conference in both Mental Health Promotion and the Fentanyl Abuse PSA categories.
At CCIR Academy, Amaan’s research paper, Repurposing Anti-diabetic GLP-1 Receptor Agonists for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, was accepted at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC). His paper explores whether drugs developed to treat type 2 diabetes could also help treat Alzheimer’s disease. These drugs include semaglutide, liraglutide, exenatide, and lixisenatide.
The study examines several possible benefits of these drugs. For instance, they may help reduce inflammation, prevent neuronal death, and support cognitive function. However, their potential role in Alzheimer’s disease requires further investigation.
The Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) is a major event focused on dementia science and clinical practice. Organised by the Alzheimer’s Association, it brings together researchers, clinicians, and other professionals. They share findings on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, from basic science to clinical care and prevention.
