High School Student Researcher Paloma’s Research on Multidimensional Reassessments Inequalities in India Published at Sigma Xi Undergraduate Conference

Paloma Bhattacharyya is a talented high school student from Delhi Public School in India with a passion for economics and social science. Her academic accomplishments include winning numerous awards in science and mathematics.

At CCIR, Paloma conducted a research project titled “Measuring Rural Inequality in India with a Multidimensional Approach.” Her study aimed to measure rural inequality in India from a multidimensional perspective, using data from the government census of 2011. She identified geographic and socio-political inequality as the main factors contributing to the multifaceted economic disparity in rural India.

Paloma’s research paper was accepted to the prestigious Sigma Xi International Youth Conference in 2022 and received excellent feedback from the judges, with a score of 42 out of a total of 45 points.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society (ΣΞ) is a non-profit honor society for scientists and engineers. Sigma Xi was founded at Cornell University by a junior faculty member and a small group of graduate students in 1886, making it one of the oldest honor societies.

In the CCIR Academy Student Spotlights, Paloma shares her views on the issue of inequality in India and discusses her research experiences, as well as how her professor guides her through the project.
